Summit Pet Product Distributors was formed in 1987 by Richard C. Nault II.
Rick was a professional dog show handler in New Hampshire before the IAMS pet
food company approached him with the opportunity to distribute their product in
the Carolinas.
Summit's first warehouse opened in Greensboro, NC, in April of 1987. It was 3,000
square feet, 600 of which was office space. We used one van for delivery, and
had just four employees. Since then, the company has grown steadily in both
sales dollar volume and in the number of items that we distribute. Today, we
employ approximately 200 people and service our retailers with a fleet of 25
trucks.
Summit has moved four times to accommodate its growth, finally settling into
our first company-owned 66,000 square-foot distribution center on Chimney Rock
Road in August of 1995. One year later we built an addition that made our
facility about 90,000 square-feet. In 1999 we opened a
satellite warehouse in Atlanta, Georgia and purchased land next to our current
building in Greensboro, so that we could add more office and warehouse space,
which would help us better serve our retail customers.
In 2001 we built a
40,000 square-foot addition in Greensboro that made the total square-footage 130,000 feet.
In the fall of 2004 we purchased more land adjacent to current Greensboro facility to build additional warehouse space. By the summer of 2005, construction was completed on a new 45,0000 square foot warehouse facility in Greensboro. The additional facility brings the total warehouse space in Greensboro to 175,000 square feet.
In the spring of 2012, Summit Pet expanded its delivery territory into five additional states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In addition, we opened a fully-staffed warehouse in Frederick, Maryland to help better serve our customers in that region.
We attribute our success to a dedicated focus on customer service and employee

the highest level of service in the industry.
